BULLYING= HOSTILE POWER & CONTROL

Bullying is defined as a conscious, willful, deliberate and repeated hostile activity perpetrated by an abuser who possesses more physical and/or social powerand dominance than the victim. It is frighteningly clear that when many normal people gain a measure of power over others they cannot resist the urge to abuse it and trat those below them with cruelty, indignity and contempt.

Although bullying is generally thought of as a chldhood problem it takes many forms across the lifespan: sexual harassment, gang attacks, dating violence, assault,domestic violence, chld abuse, harassment in the workplace and elder abuse.

Emotional Abuse: Putting him/her down. making him/her feel badly about her or himself. Using nasty mocking nicknames. Staring, giggling, laughing at him.her. Saying certain words that trigger a reaction from a past painful event.

Humiliation: Calls him/her names privately or in front of other.  Puts down or makes fun of your race, religion, class or family.  Shows off persoanl items in public.

Social Isolation: Spreading rumors & gosiping about him/her. Refusing to socialize with him/her. Silent treatment. Condemning other people who wish to socialize with him/her. Publicly criticizing the victim's manner of dress/clothing or other significant social markers generally out of their control

Technological Abuse: Sending and or spreading harassing, humiliating and defamatory messges via cell phone, social networkging site, chat rooms, IMs or email.  Pretending to be  someone else and posting material to damage that person's reputation.

Social Status: Treating them like a servant. Utilizing him/her to inflict abse on other. Controllig involvement in school and /or social ativities

Coercion: Threats and Intimidaton: Threatening future physical harm. Making him/her do illegal things (drugs/alcohol/stealing). Making him/her afraid with looks, actions, gestures. Damaging peroperty. Threatens tog et him/her in trouble wth family, friends, or school.
